Het is een paar minuten voor acht ’s ochtends en mijn bureau is al gevuld met daglicht, de lente komt eraan, lievekes, ik voel het aan alles. (Dat ze zich mag haasten, ook.) Voordat de gezelligheid van koude dagen volledig vervlogen is voor het komende halfjaar: dit parfum is voor mij onlosmakelijk verbonden aan de rafels van winter en de semi-hyper maar nog steeds ijskoude eerste lenterillingen. Ik leerde Saffron, een Cologne Intense van Jo Malone, kennen in een mistig Londen op zo één van voorgenoemd soort dagen. Ik heb hem toen niet gekocht, maar de intrigerende saffraangeur heeft me niet meer losgelaten.
Het zou een unisex parfum zijn, maar ik kan alleen maar aanraden om Saffron op je huid te proberen en een paar uur te kijken hoe hij zich ontwikkelt. De noten van roze peper, bergamot en amber komen bij veel mensen sterk naar voor (wat naar mijn goesting de geur te prominent en scherp maakt), terwijl ze bij mij eerder wegvallen en plaats maken voor de andere noten: heel subtiele wierook en iris, witte muskus en wit hout. Daarover een romige, zachte saffraan die bijna huideigen lijkt. Dit is geen parfum voor wie een fris, bloemig, zesty cologne wil. Dit is ook geen parfum voor wie zich wil wentelen in een atypische signature scent met een statement sillage. Dit is een parfum voor wie zin heeft in een natuurlijke, warme, gezellige geur wanneer ze/hij aan de pols snuffelt. Zich bewust is van de subtiele, originele geur die de huid meedraagt. In de wollen kleren kruipt. Een beetje tactiel, sensueel. Heel lekker. Zo anders dan mijn andere Jo Malone ervaringen, mind you. Dus ik zeg het: probeer deze eerst op jouw huid en wie weet word je net als ik verliefd op deze heerlijke Saffron Cologne Intense.
